BALTAN Laboratories initiates, supports and disseminates innovative research and development activities in the field of art, technology and culture. A two-year pilot initiative located in the SWA building at Strijp S in Eindhoven, it is a first step towards a broader Art Science Lab in the former NatLab (Philips physics laboratory). BALTAN Laboratories actively pursues new collaborations between disciplines and acts as point of intersection for artists working with technology in Eindhoven and beyond.

BALTAN Laboratories initieert, ondersteunt en verspreidt innovatief onderzoek en vernieuwende activiteiten op het gebied van kunst, technologie en cultuur. BALTAN Laboratories is een twee jaar durend proefproject in het SWA-gebouw op Strijp S in Eindhoven en daarmee een eerste stap in de richting van een breder Art Science Lab in het voormalige NatLab (Philips Natuurkundig Laboratorium). BALTAN Laboratories streeft actief naar nieuwe samenwerkingsverbanden tussen disciplines en fungeert als kruispunt voor kunstenaars die werken met technologie in Eindhoven en daarbuiten.

The Future of the Lab publication is out now! With contributions by Andreas Broeckmann, Eyal Fried, Nik Gaffney, Eva De Groote, Horst Hörtner, the LABtoLAB network, Melinda Rackham, Joost Rekveld, Edward A. Shanken, and others. BALTAN collaborated again this year with the Fontys Hogeschool Eindhoven ICT & Lifestyle programme’s Art & Technology minor from February-June 2010. BALTAN also worked from April to June 2010 with a group of 1st year IM Masters students at Design Academy Eindhoven.

From December 3-5, 2009, BALTAN participated in Organized Networks, a Training Programme for Cultural Network Management in Riga, Latvia.

Artists Wendy Ann Mansilla and Jordi Puig presented their new work Flick Flock, developed in residency at BALTAN Laboratories, at Galleri 3,14 in Bergen, Norway, in the Piksel09 exhibition from November 20, 2009 – January 10, 2010. It was also shown at Campus Party Brazil in Sao Paulo in January 2010.
