THE FUTURE OF OFFLINE FILESHARING VIDEO
A great video made by OddOne during The Future Of Offline Filesharing Masterclass with Aram Bartholl and David Darts during The Dutch Technology Week in Eindhoven.
In the era of growing Internet surveillance, filtering, ACTA, 3-strikes and censorship, offline data sharing is becoming more and more important for freedom of communication. Centered around the projects Dead Drops by Aram Bartholl and PirateBox by David Darts, this masterclass aimed to find new ways to share data in an offline mode.
What is the best way to send a file to a friend? How can I store data anonymously in public space? What are the best components to build up a local offline sharing grid? Will animals play a role in the future of offline filesharing?
During this masterclass, participants explored these questions and learned everything they needed to know from Aram and David to make their own Dead Drops and PirateBoxes. They also developed their own new ideas for offline filesharing and experimented with them around the Strijp-S terrain in Eindhoven.
This project is a collaboration with STRP / MU and supported by Strijp-S Cultuurfonds. More info here.

Flux/S – Drafts Establishing Future
| 09/09/2010 to 12/09/2010 |
Flux/S takes the transformation of Strijp-S from the former – restricted access – Philips industrial estate to a cultural and dynamic city centre as its inspiration for a cross-disciplinary arts manifestation. To mark the first ten years of this long-term development of 27 hectares of dismantled industrial heritage and wasteland, Flux/S invites artists to respond to these developments through visual arts and performance, interventions and dance, architecture, music, new media and poetry & literature. The developments on the site reflect the topical emphasis and practical ‘playground’ nature of the place, resulting in an ever-changing arts festival.
In the second episode in 2010, Flux/S will focus on draft structures, choices and proposals in the broadest sense. As the conceptual and architectural aspects are becoming less abstract in the development of Strijp S, the contours of projected social behaviour point to the basic interpretation of essential conditions. Flux/S – Drafts Establishing Future examines the how and why of these conditions, their underlying mechanisms and the shapes they might take. Invited artists offer alternative approaches, factual and fantastic structures and models, and unexpected opposites, correlations and influences.
BALTAN Laboratories is pleased to collaborate with Flux/S in presenting the Dutch premiere of 12_Series by Telcosystems, developed at BALTAN Laboratories under the umbrella of BALTAN’s Poeme Numerique programme.

The City is Creative at flux-s
From September 10-13, 2009, the vast, bare concrete floors of the monumental Hoge Rug buildings and Veemgebouw (the old warehouse building), together with the impressive street of pipelines, the Natlab (the former physics laboratory) and the wasteland in between, constituted the setting and stage for an international selection of artists and performers during flux-s.
For the festival, artist Michelle Teran developed a new site-specific work The City is Creative in residence at BALTAN Laboratories, which was installed on the first floor of the Veemgebouw during flux-s. See all of the photos and videos from the project as well as more information about the infra-red flashlight interface developed by Mr. Stock Interfaces for the work.
