Under the name LONG TERM SHORT STAY, United Cowboys, Baltan Laboratories, Make Eindhoven and De Fabriek work together in a cross-disciplinary residency program in Eindhoven. The program focuses on art in a social context. During this first edition, the participating artists reflect on how they relate (in their practice and as artists) to social developments.
For a period of four months (one month online and three months at locations in Eindhoven), Bo Stokkermans, Oscar van der Put, Marta Beauchamp and Sadaf Malyar have been invited to further their practice, using the unique knowledge and facilities of the four organizations to develop.
Locations:
Art House United Cowboys (Kleine Berg 62)
De Fabriek (Baarsstraat 38)
About the partners
This residency project unites four Eindhoven-based organisations - Baltan Laboratories, De Fabriek, United Cowboys and Make Eindhoven.
We, Baltan Laboratories, are an indisciplinary lab, which initiates and supports art and design projects that focus on social issues in an imaginative, collaborative and interdisciplinary manner. With our program, we create space(s) for rehearsing change: hopeful and critical space, space that emancipates and confronts, and spaces that inspire us to act. Among other things, we organize residency programs and offer space to individual makers for the development of their projects.
Make Eindhoven offers three workshop spaces under one roof with facilities for research and experimentation with materials and techniques in the field of metal casting, glass techniques and graphic techniques. Make Eindhoven sees it as its mission to promote innovation in art and design and is initiating a number of programs in which creative makers are given space to explore new ways.
United Cowboys is a collective of international artists under the guidance of a dedicated artistic team, which creates multidisciplinary performances, on the border of dance, performance music, video and installation art, that can be viewed around the globe. United Cowboys is led by Pauline Roelants and Maarten Van der Put who also curate the Art House - their workspace, a creative production space for artists from various disciplines, and a platform for collaborations and research, which hosts both local and international projects and artists.
De Fabriek supports artists by offering space, time and resources to develop, create and present their work. Driven by the awareness that our complex, rapidly changing society faces unprecedented social, ecological and technological challenges, De Fabriek investigates and explores new possibilities to meet these challenges. Art functions as a frame and as a catalyst for it.
Our Role
Baltan is one of the mentors of the program and our role is to support the artists in the development and execution of their projects. Throughout May and June 2023, we have been hosting weekly online coaching meetings with artists and fellow partners to help makers make a start with their projects, spark collaboration between them and create a learning community of makers and mentors from the four institutions.
About the Artists
We feel very inspired by the different ideas and practices shared with us and would like to introduce our Long Term Short Stay artists in residence.
Marta Beauchamp combines her knowledge of neuroscience with visual and auditory artistic projects. In this way, Marta translates complex scientific topics into multisensory room-scale installations, expending the space and dimensions for the audience to understand the dense science behind them.
Sadaf Malyar is a food artist and an independent researcher. Sadaf is a founder of Noshi Jon, which provides food and food art for small gatherings, pop-up dinners/events, collaborations and workshops. In her practice, Sadaf tries to understand the world through food and the bonding power of food practices.
Bo Stokkermans Bo's practice includes painting, art installations and performance. In his works, he questioned, among others, the contemporary processes of art production, art education, and the concept of the living space and the assumptions about it.
Oscar van der Put abstract painting is the main field of interest for Oscar. He is particularly interested in the combination of the white background on which, under the influence of light, a little colour seems to appear and disappear fleeing the viewer's eyes.
