Natlab, once the breeding ground for groundbreaking media innovations such as the first television studio, shortwave radio and electronic music, is making history once again. With support from the Brainport Regional Fund, Baltan Laboratories and BROET are opening two brand-new makerspaces at Natlab: places where a new generation of creative media makers can experiment, collaborate and present their work.
‘With these new makerspaces, we are continuing Natlab's tradition of innovation. We want to offer a place where creators from all corners of the creative sector feel at home and can develop their ideas’ says Hannie Derk, director of Natlab.
The festive opening will take place on Friday, 19 and Saturday 20 September 2025. During this weekend, the public can participate in workshops, meet other makers, and join an opening party with live music.
We will kick off with a workshop on podcast making on Friday morning. After an afternoon break, we will host an official opening at Natlab featured by four inspirational stories of makers working with Baltan and Broet. Afterwards, you will be invited for a makerspace tour and renter the podium zaal to the live coding music performance by Wilbert Vogel (a.k.a. Lil Bleep) followed by drinks and a set by DJ Frostine.
On Saturday, Baltan will host two workshops, during which experienced makers together with participants will dive deep into experimentation with outdoor audio recording and audio editing. While Broet will host an acting workshop. See the program overview below.
