SIT-PLU Residency 2026 at Baltan Laboratories x Landpark Assisië

Meet the selected Artist in Residence

We completed the final selection for the artistic residency in the SIT-PLU project. Baltan received almost 80 applications for the residency, and we are happy to announce the selected resident, Daniela Tokashiki Kunigami.

    About the Residency
SIT-PLU, Situated Creative Practices for the Pluriverse, is a Creative Europe Cooperation project that aims to address various socio-ecological challenges, such as sustainable human-non-human relationships and the multifaceted nature of renewable energy projects, through cross-disciplinary research and context-specific artistic interventions. For this residency, Baltan Laboratories collaborates with Landpark Assisië in Biezenmortel, a natural site (67 hectares) that is home to a mixed community, including individuals with complex mental disabilities and their caregivers. The selected artist is asked to respond to the specific context of the residency by developing interventions and practices that are directed at a long-term impact on the community and stakeholders.

    About Daniela
Daniela is a social designer with an intuitive, process-based practice rooted in autonomy, collaboration and material exploration. She works across various media, including ceramics, food, publications, and participatory formats. Ceramics plays a central role in her practice, offering a tactile, grounded way to explore time, care, and experimentation. Daniela values spaces for multicultural perspectives and is interested in engaging with socio-economic perspectives in the world of crafts and design. Collaboration is essential to her work, while her design ethos embraces the 'work with what is already there'.

    The Proposal
During her residency, Daniela will develop an inclusive, site-specific ceramic practice at Landpark Assisië—one that draws directly from land, supports embodied and non-verbal learning, and fosters creative exchange among residents, caregivers, visitors, and herself. After getting to know the Landpark community and its rituals and values, Daniela will construct an outdoor ceramics kiln, which will remain at Landpark available for its residents. In the meantime, she will explore the potential to use locally sourced clays and other materials, such as plants to be used for clay pigments or paints. The Landpark’s residents will experiment with diverse materials and clay work together with her, and at the end of her residency, Daniela and the park’s community will explore possibilities for developing a local market for their clay pieces.

We would like to thank all the applicants for their contributions, and we look forward to our collaboration with Daniela.
