    Workshop 1: Fabricating Realities

Workshop 2: It's true, I saw it on the news

With the increasing number of diverse media channels and rapid development of AI, it is more than necessary to train one’s eye to recognise fabricated content. Join us for an afternoon with two workshops on debunking fake news led by Wilbert Vogel, an artist, live coder and programmer.

We will begin with the second iteration of Fabricating Realities, where the participants will create an experiment creating AI-generated content with commonly used AI software. Next, the participants will be asked to create a story/news item using one of the images created in the previous phase, adjusting it to a specific context and audience. In the last phase, the participants will combine the previous phases’ experiences to develop a series of tactics that could help identify AI-fabricated content through image, text and audience/context analysis.

After the lunch break (13:00-14:00, we will provide the lunch!), the participants will be invited to play debunking games and quizzes during It’s true, I saw it in the news workshop. After the first part, we will revisit the debunking tactics we have developed during our previous workshop. We will close the workshop with another series of debunking exercises.

Workshops and lunch are free! You just need to sign up.
🎟️ If you're willing to participate to both workshops, please sign up here.

    ➡️ Workshop 1: Fabricating Realities
Misinformation? AI-fabricated content? In a world full of news, comments, stories, reels…, how can we be sure that we know what is real and what is not?

Join our second iteration of the Fabricating Realities workshop and learn how to debunk fake content. The workshop is an opportunity for you to experiment with using AI to generate (fake) content, learn about the tactics used to make the fake look real and how to spot the glitches that can sell the fake content. You will be guided by Wilbert Vogel, an artist, live coder and programmer.

The workshop will begin with short exercises to create AI-generated content with commonly used AI software. By making this content and playing with these tools, specific aesthetics, common AI mistakes, and glitches will help to spot the fabricated content.

Next, Wilbert will present different famous cases of fake news created with generative AI, to understand the contexts they came from, the audiences they influenced and how. The participants will be asked to create a story/news item using one of the images created in the previous phase, adjusting it to a specific context and audience.
In the last phase, the participants will combine the previous phases’ experiences to develop a series of tactics that could help identify AI-fabricated content through image, text and audience/context analysis.

➡️ Workshop 2: It’s true, I saw it in the news
Bending the truth? Or a news item entirely made up? Let’s train our minds and eyes to keep them sharp in a world where the development of AI offers new possibilities for content production.

Join our workshop for the citizens under 35, to, in a playful way, through games and tests, practice your ability to spot and debunk fake news. The workshop will be led by Wilbert Vogel, an artist, live coder and programmer.
Wilbert will begin with the introduction to the technologies used to create the content featured in the game, with quick exercises for you to play with the digital tools. After you familiarise yourself with those, the session will continue with the presentation of the debunking tactics we have developed during our previous fAIr Media workshop. Finally, you will have the chance to put the acquired knowledge into practice with another series of debunking exercises.

Wilbert Vogel (a.k.a. Lil Bleep) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Eindhoven and a graduate of the Sint Joost Academy of Art in Den Bosch. After completing their studies, they developed a strong interest in live coding music, which has since become their primary artistic practice—deeply rooted in digital culture. Their work spans digital art, glitch aesthetics, and animations with a political undertone, always exploring the intersection between technology and expression.
