Presentaties van het project Matter

Matter is het derde deel van een serie waarin Liesbeth Koot zich bezighoudt met de combinatie van dans, film en nieuwe media. De eerste twee delen resulteerden in korte experimentele films, dit derde en laatste deel in een live performance. De performer wordt door het gebruik van tracking software vertaald naar bewegend beeld en geluid. Daardoor wordt haar omgeving ook een soort spiegelbeeld of alter ego. Het idee voor Matter is ontstaan naar aanleiding van Ovidius’ Metamorphosen, een gedicht dat zijn oorsprong niet in de fysieke werkelijkheid heeft maar in de mythologie. Ovidius beschrijft een lange reeks van gedaanteverwisselingen.

Matter is een concept van Liesbeth Koot, in samenwerking met Inari Salmivaara, Lucas van der Velden, Gideon Kiers, David Kiers en Birgit Bachler.

Matter is mogelijk gemaakt met steun van Kunst en Cultuur Rotterdam, ThuisKopie Fonds en Fonds voor Beeldende Kunsten, Vormgeving en Bouwkunst en BALTAN Laboratories, Eindhoven.

Matter at BALTAN

Liesbeth Koot is currently working on her new project Matter at BALTAN Laboratories until mid-June 2009. Matter is the third and closing part of a series of collaborative projects, in which the combination of movement and digital media is the central issue. In the first two parts we developed studies after specific aspects of bringing together a physical world of performance and a digital world of moving image and sound: taking leaps in time and perspective through changes in point of view and the possibility of editing; alternating the non‐referential and the concrete ‐ from recognizable imagery to rhythmical and textural edits. Central questions in these projects are:  ‘How do we perceive a person? ‐ as a performer, as an object, as energy or abstracted into lines and planes ‐ and ‘In what type of space is this person? ‐ in a black box, on a screen, outside or in an exhibition space ‐.

BALTAN collaborated again this year with the Fontys Hogeschool Eindhoven ICT & Lifestyle programme’s Art & Technology minor from February-June 2010. BALTAN also worked from April to June 2010 with a group of 1st year IM Masters students at Design Academy Eindhoven.

From December 3-5, 2009, BALTAN participated in Organized Networks, a Training Programme for Cultural Network Management in Riga, Latvia.

Artists Wendy Ann Mansilla and Jordi Puig presented their new work Flick Flock, developed in residency at BALTAN Laboratories, at Galleri 3,14 in Bergen, Norway, in the Piksel09 exhibition from November 20, 2009 – January 10, 2010. It was also shown at Campus Party Brazil in Sao Paulo in January 2010.
